When a person is in the military, it’s not easy on anyone if they’re deployed overseas or away for training. Our U.S. military members are mothers, fathers, sons, daughters, siblings, and pet owners too. There’s no doubt that being apart can be heartbreaking for both the family and the person who’s gone.

But while it’s painful to say goodbye to a military loved one – it sure is amazing when they return home! Even if you’re not someone who’s experienced an emotional reunion for yourself, you’ve probably seen your fair share of them online. Is it even possible not to get the warm and fuzzies watching a good homecoming video?

A category of reunions that’s super-sweet is military members reuniting with their pets.

Nothing is better than watching a dog’s over-the-top reaction when it sees its buddy again. Often times, you even need a box of tissues nearby! However, cats can also get really excited about their “human” returning home.

One video that went mega-viral focuses on a cat named Finn. He’s in the kitchen with his mama and seems to realize that his “daddy” is on his way.

The woman filming is waiting for her soldier boyfriend, Nick, to walk through the door. According to the YouTube video description, he was away for drill. She asks Finn, “Who’s coming?”

Finn the cat is sitting at the front door at the beginning of the video meowing. When his mom starts talking to him, it seems he knows just what’s going to happen – Dad will be home!

The feline jumps on the door, swishes his tail, and continues to meow. Come on already, Dad… I can’t take the anticipation!

According to the Battersea website, there are signs that your cat is excited about something.

Some behavioral clues are that the feline appears “alert” and “responsive to their surroundings.” Also, they appear focused on what they desire. As for facial signs, an excited cat’s eyes may appear more rounded with dilated pupils, and their ears are facing forward and pointing upwards.

Yep, I think it’s safe to say that Finn seems really excited in the video.

Finally, the doorhandle jingles and the door swings open. It’s Nick dressed in his Army uniform carrying a box of his belongings.

As he steps inside, the cat sees who it is, and paces around for a moment or two. Nick sets his box on the floor and then addresses Finn. He looks down at the cat with spread out hands and says, “Hey, buddy, it’s me!”

After Nick asks him the question, Finn adorably leaps all the way up into his dad’s arms! It’s a moment that pulls on your heartstrings.
