Abandoned Cat Walks 12 Miles Back To Family's Home
This smart and loyal cat didn't understand why his family abandoned him, and so he decided to walk back to them. But things didn't go quite as planned.

One day, a sweet seven-year-old stray cat showed up outside a family’s home in North Carolina. The family took him in and gave him a name, Toby. But unfortunately, since Toby was unneutered, he fought with the family’s other cats. And so, they gave the cat to some friends who lived about 12 miles away from them.

Toby loved his new family, and he didn’t want to lose them. And so, the cat walked the 12 miles back to his family’s house.

Toby must have thought his owners would be happy to see him and would welcome him back home. But that wasn’t what happened. Toby’s old owners took the cat over to a local shelter and asked them to euthanize him.

The shelter was shocked by the request, and they refused to put down the smart, loyal cat. Instead, they reached out to SPCA of Wake County and asked for help finding Toby a home.

“The family he thought had loved him took him to a shelter and asked staff to euthanize him,” the SPCA of Wake County said in a Facebook post. “The shelter called us at the SPCA to ask if we could take him in and help him find a new family. Of course, we said YES!”

The SPCA neutered Toby and introduced him to some of their other cats. He quickly became great friends with them. The SPCA also decided to share Toby’s story on Facebook.

Toby’s story quickly went viral—everyone was amazed that the cat had walked 12 miles just to get back to his old home. His story was shared all around the world, and the applications started pouring in.

The SPCA quickly found the perfect new owner for Toby, a woman named Michelle Puckett. Puckett met with Toby and immediately fell in love with him.

On April 13, 2018, Puckett adopted Toby and brought him to her home, and it was immediately clear that Puckett’s house was a great fit for Toby!

“He has three new siblings (one feline and two human) and a cat-savvy mom to show him what a loving family is really like,” the SPCA says.

Now, Toby is as happy as can be in his new home.

Puckett started an Instagram page where she documents Toby’s daily adventures. Toby spends most of his time relaxing, napping and hanging out with Puckett. He’s also a big fan of getting his chin scratched.

yeah, right there. That’s the spot😸
