In 2015, Stuart McDaniel, the owner of marketing firm GuRuStu, decided to adopt an office cat. He headed over to the Tulsa Animal Welfare Shelter and chose a sweet six-month-old cat named Sir Whine-a-lot. The cat quickly made himself at home in the office, and he helped solve the office’s pest problem.

In 2017, something odd started happening at GuRuStu’s office.

When McDaniel came into work in the morning, he often found piles of dollar bills on the floor next to the office’s glass front door. At first, McDaniel couldn’t figure out what was going on. Were clients paying their invoices in one-dollar bills?

But then, McDaniel noticed Sir Whine-a-lot standing by the glass door, playing with the dollar bills.

GuRuStu’s office is located in a busy area in Downtown Tulsa’s East Village neighborhood. The neighborhood is filled with restaurant and bars, and it gets a lot of foot traffic. McDaniel realized that one of these passersby must have noticed Sir Whine-a-lot standing behind the glass door. The person must have slipped a dollar bill through the crack in the door, and Sir Whine-a-lot grabbed it.

McDaniel tested his theory by sticking a dollar bill through the door. Sure enough, Sir Whine-a-lot immediately grabbed the money.

Word quickly spread through Tulsa about the cash-snatching cat.

People started stopping by the office to play with Sir Whine-a-lot, and soon, the cat was constantly surrounded by piles of dollar bills. McDaniel gave the cat the nickname Cashnipkitty.

After the word spread about Cashnipkitty, a local news channel came to interview McDaniel about his cat. McDaniel told the news channel they’re planning to give the money Cashnipkitty raises to the Tulsa Day Center for the Homeless.

“We thought, well, if he’s going to do this, we’re going to give this to a charity so people will be more included to do it and so he can do some good at the same time,” McDaniel told KOTV News.

After the news segment aired, even more people came to play with Cashnipkitty. The first weekend after the news segment, Cashnipkitty raised $110 for Tulsa’s homeless population!

“We chose the day center since he’s a shelter cat, and he was once homeless,” McDaniel explained.
