Princess is a pitbull who also goes by the honorific Her Royal Highness of the 805.
But Princesses life was not always so charmed. In fact, it took her quite a long time to find a forever home where she would be loved and treated with dignity.

The early days
The senior dog was abandoned at a shelter at the age of 7. But before that, she had spent years merely being a backyard “pet.”
“Everyone kind of recognized right away that this poor dog was, like, having a really hard time,” Laura Davies, Princess’s mom, told The Dodo of her early days in the shelter.
Princess was scared at the shelter – possibly because she just didn’t know how to accept affection or play with other dogs. And Davies felt really sorry for the confused pit bull.
The cat lady becomes a dog lady
Davies is a self-proclaimed “cat lady,” but something about Princess just struck her and she felt compelled to help the lonely creature by fostering her.
Fearing that she didn’t know what she was doing with a dog, she decided to let love lead and allow Princess to grow into herself.
But that didn’t mean the animals would cooperate. In fact, while Davies’ cats seemed fascinated by Princess, the pup was not so sure about making friends with felines.
Finding a home
Davies did everything she could think of to find the pit bull a forever home, including posting videos of her on social media to drum up interest and a brief 2016 presidential run!
But after a year, there were still no takers. Plenty of people expressed interest – as they often do online when they don’t have to follow through – but no one stepped up.
That’s when Davies realized that Princess might have already found her forever home – with her.
The dog just wanted to hang out and lap up affection. She wasn’t much into playing with toys or going on walks – luxuries she was deprived of for 7 years.
In other words, Princess is kind of like a cat.
Once Davies realized what a chilled out dog she had, it made sense to keep her.
Happily ever after
Princess is now 11(ish) years old, according to her Instagram account. And she and her family – which includes household cats and foster kittens alike – are doing just great.
While she hasn’t entirely forgotten where she came from, she seems to have settled into her new life quite well. She’s a snuggly, happy dog who loves her people, hates being home alone, and enjoys both eggs and car rides.

Princess still isn’t entirely sure how she feels about all cats, but she’s willing to tolerate them – at least from behind a door.
So, in the end, the sad pup who lived a life of neglect and whose depressed look made a cat lady take pity on her is now living her best life in Ventura County, California and serving as a reminder that pit bulls make great pets – even if you’re a cat person.
