The message at the end about the elderly is so important.

This poor Calico kitty had several pounds of matted fur on her. It was a pretty severe case. One of the most severe ones according to iizcat.com. Her elderly owner passed away but it looked like neglect over a long period of time.

It wasn’t just matted. Her fur were like dreadlocks already. Looking at the cat from behind, it looks like a huge tarantula to the untrained eye. Such was this poor cat’s condition.

She’ll be fine.

Jenn Levitzki and the people of Animal Rescue League Shelter & Wildlife Center came to the cat’s rescue. That’s probably Jenn’s voice narrating while filming the cat, which she says she might take her an hour or so to help this poor creature.

She moves the camera slowly over the dense tangled coat before showing the cat’s face. The Calico just looks done. She’s had a hard life in a way. Imagine having all that hair on your back.

It’s a head and… hair.

Literally when you look at the cat, it’s just her head and then a mass of hair. You can’t even see her paws or hind legs. The cat looked so miserable so Jenn went to work. She sedated the cat and shaved away.

It’s like one of those makeover shows. Except people don’t get sedated. Jenn finishes shaving the jungle of hair from the cat but the kitty is still knocked out. She’s in purrfect hands.

It’s a fat cat!

Jenn goes on to show all the fur she shaved off the neglected cat. There’s a pile of it on the table beside the sleeping Calico, and on the floor are all the dreads arranged individually. That’s a lot of dreads!

“Poor baby! She’s gonna’ feel like a million bucks when she wakes up.”

Says Jenn.

Nine lives intact!

The cat will go on to live with a distant relative of her previous owner where hopefully, she will have a better life.

Lots of love in the comments section,

“Poor sweetheart, can’t imagine how difficult it was for her.”

Says one, while another commented,

“Sad. This isn’t normal. Cats are not supposed to grow fur like this. Thanks for helping her!”

Colorful Calicos!

Calicos are basically domestic cats that seem to have been splattered with paint. The orange, black and white of these cats are unique to them and most are female. Males are sterile if you ever find one.

Nature breeds them. And they are very sweet, loving, and loyal when treated right. And they are so rare that they’ve had folklore and beliefs about them!

There was a time when Japanese fishermen brought them on board to protect them from storms and the ghosts of ancestors. The Irish believed that rubbing a Calico’s tail on a wart during the month of May would cure it. Yeah, weird.

Thanks hooman!

This cat literally had so much weight lifted off her back. All those years of neglect pressing down on her resulted in tentacle-like locks of fur that looked like she belonged in a science fiction movie.

But thanks to the efforts of Jenn, this cat gets to live a new life, free from the tangled mess of her past.
