In an ideal world, every child would grow up in a loving and supportive family. Sadly, the little boy in this story does not, as his puppy’s heartbreaking experience shows.
In Mexico, Andres had a terrible decision to make. It all started when he took a puppy home.
At first, he hoped that the dog would ease the tensions in his household. He was wrong.
Andres’ father is a violent man. And he decided to take that anger out on the puppy.
The child had fallen in love with the little dog. But he soon realized that the puppy was unsafe in his home.
So Andres and his mother talked about what they could do. In the end, they realized that the only real solution would be to get the puppy out of the home without the dad noticing.
The next morning, when Andres’ father had left for work, the boy wrote a note and packed the puppy into a cardboard box along with a toy.
Then, on the way to school, Andres stopped off at the nearest shelter, named Xollin, and left the puppy at the door.
The shelter volunteers soon found the confused and scared puppy. They read the note that came with the puppy.
Specifically, the note said the following in Spanish:
“My name is Andres, and I’m 12 years old. My mom and I decided to leave him to you. All of this is behind my dad’s back, because he was thinking of selling him. But he is always beating and kicking the dog. Once he kicked him so hard that his little tail got injured. I hope you can help him and take care of him. Here is a plush toy so he won’t forget me.”
The volunteers looked at the dog and realized that his tail was indeed injured. So they took him to the vet.
Soon, the vet had treated the puppy’s fractured tail. They also discovered that the dog had several parasites that needed to be treated.
After the trip to the vet, the dog soon became happier. It was like he could tell that he was through the worst.
Naturally, the dog was still scared. But there was something hopeful about him.
The shelter volunteers decided to name the puppy Rene.
They then posted Rene’s story to Facebook, where it made a huge impact. To date, the post has gained over 2,700 reactions. It also has more than 1,000 shares and 500 comments. People have been saying things like this:
Soon, significantly more people had requested to adopt Rene than any other dog who had arrived at the Xollin shelter.
The shelter then pointed out that they had hundreds of dogs who needed their own loving homes.
Over the course of the next few weeks, the shelter volunteers made sure that Rene recovered from his injuries and was happy.
They also began sifting through all of the applications to adopt him.
Then, three weeks after he arrived at the shelter, Rene was finally adopted. Naturally, he is now in a safe and loving forever home.
And the best thing is that thanks to Rene, so many other dogs at the shelter found forever homes.
Just think, Rene has no idea that he has done such an amazing thing.
Sadly, there was no way for the shelter to identify the boy who dropped Rene off. Hopefully, he and his mother will be safe and will escape the cruel father.
