Meet Finn: a very good boy who works as a bat dog for the Las Vegas Aviators, a Minor League baseball team.
Finn fetches the baseball bat when batters throw it away. The five-year-old Lab is great at his job, and he absolutely loves fetching!
Over the past three years, Finn has become a staple at Las Vegas Aviators games, and fans love seeing him at work. Even the opposing team fans will cheer for Finn.
Since Finn is so popular, the fans are protective of him. Sometimes, Finn even does tricks with the bats he fetches!
“His enthusiasm and how animated he is, how much he loves his job, people can really see that,” Fred Hassen, Finn’s owner, told News 3 LV. “Finn is their lead-off bat dog with special skills.”
Finn also does other cute tricks.
Hassen taught Finn how to climb onto a fire hydrant, and so the Aviators put one their field for Finn to hop onto. Everyone in the crowd was amazed by Finn’s skills!
“There are some funny moments,” Hassen said. “There are some moments where somebody will come out with a ball, he’ll be in the middle of getting the bat, and the umpire will roll the ball to the pitcher and Finn will just stop in the middle and go out to the ball.”
Finn doesn’t just fetch bats—sometimes, he’ll bring water coolers out to the umpires. Most of the umpires love seeing Finn run towards him, and they’ll always stop and pet him in.

But it turns out, not all the umpires work for the Las Vegas Aviators are as friendly to Finn. In April 2019, Finn was helping out at a home game—the Aviators were playing the Sacramento River Cats.
At one point, one of the batters threw his bat, and Finn quickly ran over to fetch it. But before he could, the umpire grabbed it and threw it off to the side.
The crowd immediately responded with a hearty round of boos. Fans who supported both teams joined together to boo this umpire.
Since Finn is a professional, he didn’t let this turn of events phase him. He ran over to where the umpire dropped the bat, fetched it, and brought it over to another umpire. While Finn did that, the crowd continued booing the first umpire.
We’re sure that the umpire learned his lesson—never mess with a team’s beloved bat dog!
