The Selkirk Rex is a curly-haired cat breed that you’ve probably never heard of, but once you see one, you’ll never forget it. The breed is pretty new on the scene and has been quickly growing in popularity due to its long, luscious fur. The fur manifests itself into beautiful curls, safely placing this cat in the longhair category.
The breed is the result of a house cat named Miss DePesto pairing off with a black Persian cat named Photo Finish. Three curly-haired kittens appeared in their litter, and the hair proved to be a dominant gene. The Selkirk Rex was born, named in honor of the breeder’s stepfather.

This little guy has a ferocious meow, but it’s mostly an act. He is only a few weeks old. Yet, his signature Selkirk Rex curls are already starting to grow out.
Here we have a Selkirk Rex that really dislikes being photographed. We don’t understand her hesitancy to get in front of the camera though. She has such beautiful long fur to show off!
In this photo it’s hard to tell where the cat begins and where the blanket ends. The two of them both sort of blend together. It’s due to all of that lovely fluff!
This Selkirk Rex is absolutely perfect. She recently got a haircut up top for the summer season. However, she still has all of her curly fur remaining on her chest.
Someone named this beautiful cat Pumpkin. There is a good reason for that choice. It’s because her fluffy orange coat has her resembling something gigantic and round!
This cat only has one eye. There is so much fluff on the cat’s face that it makes it almost invisible though. The eye is buried deep beneath so much fur, it must be like looking out through binoculars.
7. Longhaired Skateboarder
Skateboarding is a dangerous activity for both humans and cats alike. It’s especially true when you have long hair. It’s so easy to get it caught up in the wheels!
Just because the cat is scowling at us doesn’t mean that it is actually angry. It is just his natural look. His grumpy demeanor is so over the top, we don’t think that anyone is falling for it.
These siblings both came out with different colored fur. However, they both share the same luscious curls. It’s such an adorable photo of the two of them.
Here we have a whole family of Selkirk Rex cats. They are all equally fluffy and all equally lovely. We want to give each and every one of them a big, cuddly hug.
Believe it or not, there is a cat somewhere in this photo. In her relaxed state, she blends right in with the bed. She looks super comfortable sprawled out on her back like that.

Here we have another one from our favorite one-eyed Selkirk Rex on Instagram. He goes by the name of Mad Eye Moody. Although, his close friends all lovingly refer to him as Baby Monster.
Even house cats enjoy a nice walk around the back yard every once in a while. Parental supervision is required, of course. The biggest challenge is trying to fit the leash around all of that curly fur!
These two cat brothers have a lot of fun when they play. The one on the left is actually named Trouble! The two of them are used to getting into all sorts of fun mischief together around the home.
17. My Pretty Pink Pajamas
Somehow, outfits look even goofier on Selkirk Rexes than they do on other breeds. The curly hair just doesn’t want to stay contained. It often explodes out from around the fabric.
If there are no cat treats readily available, this thieving Selkirk Rex takes matters into his own hands. Occasionally, he has even been known to kill a box of cereal. It is his guilty pleasure.
This beauty appears to be begging her human owners for a belly rub. There is nothing she loves more than a nice belly massage while lounging about on her favorite couch.
The curls on this cat are out of control. Even by Selkirk Rex standards. He is shaggier than most.
Here we have a Selkirk Rex cat from Italy. Selkirk Rexes are truly a worldwide breed now. “His sociable and lively personality makes him very playful and he is a true lover of cuddles,” the photo translation reads.
This is what it looks like when those classic long curls come out looking slightly more straight. Once you run a brush through them, you can really start to appreciate their incredible length.

What is in the bush? We are mainly just speculating, however, there must be a sweet mouse or rodent hole in there. What else could it be?
The one Selkirk Rex had his fur trimmed but his head is still just as shaggy as ever. His friend is very amused by his goofy appearance. It is so easy to make fun of him now!
Here we have a Selkirk Rex that is so tiny, she makes the fluffy adults look like literal giants in comparison. She can fit in the palm of your hand currently. However, she won’t stay that way for very long!
There are three young kittens in this image and one big mama cat. She is a huge pile of fluff. All of the kittens love snuggling up next to her.
This Selkirk Rex looks like he was up to no good. No one knows what he was doing in the corner next to the plant for sure. However, we can all make some educated guesses about it.
It’s the perfect pose. This cat is clearly going to be a model one day. Although, in his mind, he is just soaking up the sun and trying to enjoy the weather.
This cat is the queen of the home. She has the most relaxing lifestyle. She hangs out all day taking naps while the humans are forced to go outside and work.
It looks like someone is hoping to get a bite. The cat is wondering if it is possible for the humans to spare a tiny spoonful. For the cat, rice is a very tasty snack.
