Meet Boo: a sweet hairless cat who loves food and people more than anything in the world.
For the few first years of his life, Boo lived with a couple and their baby daughter. When the little girl was a toddler, her parents realized she was allergic to Boo. Boo’s parents put him in a separate part of the house while they decided what to do. The cat was upset about being on his own, and he turned to food for comfort. Soon, the cat weighed almost 25 pounds.
When Boo’s parents learned they were expecting another baby, they realized they wouldn’t be able to keep Boo. They contacted a woman named Courtney Haney and asked if she would take the cat in. She quickly said yes.
When Boo got to Courtney’s house, she immediately put him on a diet to help him get down to a healthy weight.
“At his old home he was kept in a room with food down 24/7 with little interaction,” Courtney Haney, Boo’s rescuer, told The Dodo. “Once we took him in, we put him on a feeding schedule of two wet foods a day and some dry mixed in throughout the day.”
Boo settled into life at Haney’s house. Haney had another hairless cat, Lamb, and she and Boo quickly bonded. Lamb also helped keep Boo active, which led to him quickly losing weight. Boo was so happy that he had a family who played with him!
“We played with him and Lamb a lot so he became pretty active,” Haney said.
Soon after Haney took Boo in, she adopted a dog named Penny Lane. Boo, Penny Lane, and Lamb all got along well.
Boo and Penny Lane chased each other around the house, having a great time. Like all siblings, they also got into some mischievous together. They would sometimes even help each other steal food off the counter.
Since Boo was eating healthy and was so active, he quickly lost weight.
Soon, he lost eight pounds, and the vet told Haney that he was now at a healthy weight. Haney was so happy that Boo was doing better!
“It took us about two years to get him down to the 16 pounds he is now and he’s been able to stay that way with his daily activity and feeding schedule,” Haney said. “Boo has lost a third of his body weight!”
But even though Boo is eating healthier, he still appreciates a good meal. He’ll sometimes open up Penny Lane’s dog biscuit container and steal a treat. If Haney isn’t careful, Boo will also steal chicken off her plate!
Boo is a clever, loving cat who has found a family who loves him and wants him to be happy. We’re so glad Boo is doing so much better!
